When ?

This pilgrimage as no season, you can do it all year long.

- Some like to be in Santiago on the 25th of july, which is saint’s day. If the 25th of july is a sunday, then the year is called” holly year” in Santiago. 2004 is a holly year.

It takes about two monthes from Le Puy en Velay to Santiago ( about 1550 kilometers)

- If you like being alone,

choose winter, in its second part, the days are becoming longer. But have a warmer equipment.
Some gites will be closed, and without host, especially those who are not heated.
In winter it’s careful to be two.

- For meeting, ambience with other pilgrims,

Choose summer, from july to september. But, probably, it will be warm, very warm sometimes. Then you’ll meet many pilgrims, walk together, sleep together in crowdy gites. Remember you are on a pilgrimage way, not on a race track. In France it’s possible to reserve ahead but not in Spain.

- Spring should be the best season,

but often rainy and in may you will start to find a beginning of crowd.

- The late autumn might be a good compromise ( september, october, november), for climate, light crowd, beautiful nature and her fruits.

In short, go when you like or when you can, because appeal does not wait and you don’t know what will be tomorrow. Many pilgrims start on an specific date in relation with their own story.

Starting a pilgrimage, is-it not a kind of new birth to become, by God grace, a new man.
